Wedding series: Flowers and destination weddings

September 1, 2017

Destination weddings are a hot trend! Aussies are jet-setting to exotic places like Bali, Thailand and Fiji to exchange vows and have a holiday with family and friends at the same time. With amazing hotels offering all-inclusive wedding packages, there’s often little work left to do. However, it’s a great opportunity to focus on all the finer, fun details like flowers and decoration!

One important question is – Which flowers should you go with on your tropical wedding? This will of course depend on the climate and the location but try to stick to locally sourced plants for an authentic tropical vibe. Kathleen, owner of Flowerdayz – an Australian florist specialising in weddings and events gives her best tips and her favourites for 2018:

Orchids. Exquisite and unique for a bouquet or ceremony décor. Look out for the phalaenopsis for their striking beauty and size.

Chrysanthemums. Perfect for a day in the sun especially for their endurance and flower size.

Hydrangeas. Great for bursts of colour but ensure they stay hydrated.

Blushing Bride and Calla Lilies. Beautiful flowers in soft hues, great to use in a bouquet or to decorate chairs.

Amaranthus. This distinctive hanging flower works great to create an arch or to add length to your bouquet.

Dahlias. Make sure they are fresh and they will add an amazing burst of colour to your day.

Tropical flowers. You cannot go past the beauty of tropicals for a beach wedding. Anthuriums, Kangaroo Paw, Bird of Paradise and Heliconia will perfectly fit the vibe of your beach wedding.
