What’s the best mascara out there? I often get asked this question and the truth is, it’s so personal to the type of look you want to achieve. Long lashes, wispy lashes, curled or dramatic, mascaras of all brush sizes and formulas achieve different results. So, to help you out I tried out the top 5 mascaras plus two base coat mascaras to see the difference. The results might surprise you!
Vegan, Australian made mascara with a nylon brush and a non-clumping formula for just $9.95! This mascara is definitely worth the hype and delivers wispy, natural looking lashes. While the brand promises big drama and intense false lash effect, with just two coats, I think it’s a perfect ‘everyday’ mascara. The brush is nylon and slightly larger in size, which some may find a little more challenging, but it didn’t take me long to get used to it. The mascara is also available in a waterproof formula.
This is by far the most talked about mascara right now. And hand on heart, it delivers! Volume, length, curl, intense colour… it’s all there! The Maybelline Falsies Lash Lift Mascara features a double-curved brush that lifts the lashes into place and applies an intense dark coat filled with micro-fibres. Now, I am usually not a fan of fibre mascaras but I honestly didn’t even realise it had fibres until I read the pamphlet! They are totally unnoticeable whilst delivering the promised length and volume. This mascara is my go to for an everyday glam look. RRP $24.95.
A true classic. The Lancôme Hypnôse Mascara gives volume and intense drama that you control. The brush is a great size with small bristles for precision and separation. The mascara doesn’t smudge or have any fall out. The only downside is the high price point ($56 RRP). However this is what you should expect to pay for a luxurious and quality brand like Lancôme.
Enhance the appearance of your lashes with a Lancôme undercoat! I love to use this along with the Lancôme Hypnôse Mascara for more length, curve and thickness. The base also creates softer, smoother lashes for easier mascara application. Additionally, the base mascara is enriched with XL Micro-Fibers which help to protect your lashes and create a boosting effect.
If you want a mascara with staying power, this is the one! It is a new kind of ‘waterproof’ which lasts through rain, sweat, humidity and tears. Yet, it wipes off easily with just warm water! Besides this, my favourite part about this mascara is the incredible, thin wand that reaches even the tiniest of lashes. Perfect for creating length up top and reaching even the tiniest lashes in the corners of your eyes and on the lower lash line. RRP $39.
You guys went wild for my IGTV tutorial of this mascara and I suddenly remember why! The waterproof black formula creates incredible definition and length that is unparalleled! Honestly, I had forgotten how much I like this mascara on it’s own and with the MAC False Lashes Maximizer (see more below ;)). It doesn’t smudge and the brush is long and thin so it’s able to reach the tiniest hairs. RRP $39 and worth every penny!
Name a more iconic duo, I’ll wait. Pair the MAC Extended Play Gigablack Lash Mascara with the MAC False Lashes Maximiser and you get the most insane lashes, ever. I haven’t worn this combo in a while simply because I was testing out other formulas but wow – it’s still the number one for me! Length, definition, volume, intense colour. The perfect drama duo for your best lashes yet. I’m definitely jumping back onto these two for my glam weekend lashes!
So what do you think? Are you surprised by what these mascaras deliver?
